President’s New Year Message

This New Year is more meaningful to the extent that it strengthens the bonds of friendship among our people. This comes from the many commitments made towards achieving much sought after peace, by the government and the people, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a Sinhala and Hindu New Year message. Security Forces restrict operations during New Year

As the nation celebrated the traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year, President Mahinda Rajapaksa, conscious of the need to give the civilian population entrapped as hostages by the ruthless actions of the LTTE the opportunity to celebrate these festivities, directed the Armed Forces of the State to restrict their operations during the New Year to those of a defensive nature.(Lankapuvath)

Civilians fly to Jaffna again

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has stepped into assist civil passenger transportation between Jaffna and Colombo. On the request of the Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda, the SLAF has commenced transporting civil passengers in their routine flights to Jaffna from Colombo and return from April 2009. World Telecommunication Forum held in Sri Lanka

The World Telecommunication Forum commenced was held on 7th April in Colombo with industry leaders and policy makers from Sri Lanka and the Asian and African regions convening.  The event was hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) in association with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization. Sri Lanka’s first tunnel hospital opens

Sri Lanka’s first Hospital underground tunnel has been vested in the public. It incurred an expenditure of 45 million rupees. The Kurunegala Hospital becomes the first in the island to have underground access facilities. It will be beneficial for the large crowds visiting the Hospital daily.
