Indo-Lanka Relationss have reached “an unprecedented level of depth”
India’s relations with Sri Lanka have reached “an unprecedented level of depth and quality today”, observed Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon at his meeting with Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama on 16/1, during his two-day visit to the island. The Foreign Secretary further observed that it is during difficult times that the true quality of a friendship becomes most evident, and that the Indo-Lanka relationship is one such friendship that has effectively withstood the test of time and adversity. Minister Bogollama warmly welcomed Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon to Sri Lanka, and indicated that this visit is a reflection of India’s steadfast friendship with Sri Lanka as well as the maturity of the Indo-Lanka relationship. Army Captures LTTE Camp and Boat Manufacturing Factory
According to the battlefield reports, troops have entered into the South of Puthukkudiyiruppu jungle areas and captured a highly fortified LTTE camp and a boat manufacturing factory from the Maruthampuvel area on 17/1. (Dept. of Information)
SAARC Education Ministers Meet in Colombo
A meeting of Ministers of Education and Higher Education of SAARC countries will be held in Colombo on March 26 and 27. At a meeting held in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2008 on the subject of Mutual Recognition of degrees and Common Education Standards in the region, Sri Lanka initiated the proposal to convene this meeting with the prime intention of coordination and standardization of educational policies and strategies within the member countries of SAARC, in keeping with the emerging global trends. A Yacht Marine Zone at the Galle Port
The construction work of Sri Lanka’s first ever Marine Yacht Zone commenced recently, at the Galle Port Premises. The construction of yacht marine zone will be done by the Ports Authority of Sri Lanka (SLPA).The Galle Port is the only Sri Lankan port that provides facilities for enjoyment. The International Yacht Society has recognised the Galle Port as one of the world’s best ports. (Dept. of Information)
