Sri Lanka Navy’s newly acquired Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) P627 (Ex USCG Douglas Munro) which left Seattle, USA on September 03, 2022 made a port of call in Singapore and undertook a goodwill visit from 22- 26, October 2022.
After calling at Port of Manila, Philippines on October 12, 2022, P 627 commenced the remainder of its voyage on October 16, arriving in Changi Port in Singapore on October 22 for replenishment and service.
In further enhancing the naval diplomacy between Sri Lanka and Singapore, Captain (G) DMCLB Dissanayake, Commanding Officer (Desig) of OPV P627, paid a courtesy call on Commander 9th Flotilla Colonel Leon Chua of Republic of Singapore Navy on 26 October 2022.
The Captain and crew of the vessel extended an invitation to High Commissioner Sashikala Premawardhane and the staff of Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore as well as the Sri Lankan expatriates living in Singapore to a Sri Lankan evening onboard OPV P627 on 22th October 2022. Addressing the gathering High Commissioner Premawardhane stated that the contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy was instrumental in defeating terrorism and ending the Sri Lankan conflict. She highlighted the importance of augmenting naval capabilities and expressed appreciation to the US Government which gifted the OPV to Sri Lanka. She also appreciated the naval cooperation with Singapore and added that enhanced collaboration between the two sides would be of mutual benefit.
During this long voyage, P 627 covered the Pacific Ocean for approximately 7700 nautical miles (14260 km) in 41 days. P 627 arrived at the port of Colombo today, after her call at Changi, Singapore.
