The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore in collaboration with the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka and the Gem Traders Association of Singapore organized a B2B virtual meeting between the Sri Lankan gem and jewellery exporters and Singapore gem and jewellery companies on 31st August 2022 with the objective of promoting Sri Lankan gem stones in Singapore.
During the opening remarks, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore H.E.Sashikala Premawardhane highlighted the importance of organizing the event specially targeting the gem sector as Singapore is a good market for gem and jewellery products. Mr.Suresh De Mel , Chairman of Export Development Board of Sri Lanka, requested the participants to take part at gem exhibitions in both the countries to increase trade ties in the gem sector. Mr.Mohamed Bilal, President of Gem Traders Association of Singapore informed that their members had long term business ties with Sri Lanka and agreed to engage with the Sri Lankan gem exporters to import more gems from Sri Lanka.
The virtual B2B promotion was attended by around 10 Singapore gem and jewellery companies and 12 Sri Lankan gem exporters. Singapore companies have shown their keen interest in the Sri Lankan gem & jewellery industry and agreed to meet the Sri Lankan gem exporters in Singapore during their visit to Jewellery and Gem World Exhibition which will be held from 27th to 30th September 2022 at the Singapore Expo.
