A special networking event was held to promote Sri Lanka’s IT industry and support Sri Lankan start-ups on 10 June 2025 at the Ceylon Sports Club, Singapore. The event was organised by the High Commission of Sri Lanka with the objective of connecting Sri Lankan tech entrepreneurs with Singapore-based IT professionals and potential investors, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and  long-term partnerships to strengthen Sri Lanka’s digital ecosystem along with promoting the upcoming Disrupt Asia 2025 Summit.

Opening the event, HE the High Commissioner, Senarath Dissanayake, highlighted on the importance of strengthening networks between Sri Lanka’s tech start-ups and the global innovation community, considering the crucial role the IT industry could play in driving Sri Lanka’s economic growth and serving as an increasingly vital source of foreign exchange.

Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor on Digital Economy to the President of Sri Lanka and Chairman of the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), shared Sri Lanka’s national vision for digital development.

Dr. Anton Ravindran, President of the Alliance for AI & Humanity (AAIH), Singapore spoke about the strength of Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and how Sri Lankan start-ups can leverage regional platforms to scale and grow.

The Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy of Sri Lanka, Waruna Sri Dhanapala, expressed the government of Sri Lanka’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for digital innovation and underlined the potential for Sri Lankan start-ups to scale globally through partnerships with Singaporean investors and professionals.

The event featured company introductions by four Sri Lankan start-ups participating in Echelon, Singapore from 10–12 June 2025. The presentations showcased the innovative spirit and global potential of Sri Lanka’s emerging tech community. Sachin Wickramasinghe presented his venture Thyaga, followed by Ahamed Faheem of Aahayani Agri Pvt Ltd, Dirk Guinan of AVM Green Tape Pvt Ltd, and Rumeth Sanidu of AeroGen.

Founding Partner of nVentures Pte Ltd, Singapore, Imal Kalutota, shared his personal journey as a Sri Lankan entrepreneur who successfully established a presence in Singapore. He offered words of encouragement to the visiting start-ups, pledged his support, and emphasized the importance of resilience, collaboration, and bold thinking in entrepreneurship.

Sachindra Samararathne, Associate Chief Digital Economy Officer at ICTA, gave a preview of the upcoming Disrupt Asia 2025 Summit, which will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He invited international partners, especially from Singapore, to participate in the event, noting it as a flagship platform for regional tech engagement, policy dialogue, and start-up collaboration.

The event concluded with a vibrant networking session over refreshments, where participants exchanged ideas, explored partnership opportunities, and discussed ways to strengthen Sri Lanka-Singapore cooperation in the tech and innovation space. The evening served as a vital step towards building a globally connected and competitive digital economy for Sri Lanka.
