Former Nepal Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal said the Buddhist countries should introduce flights to Lumbini International Airport to facilitate pilgrims visiting the Buddhist place of worship.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees on July 5, Mr Madhav Kumar said direct flights already operate from Kathmandu to Colombo and hence, Sri Lankan authorities could extend it from Lumbini to Colombo as well to facilitate large number of tourists and pilgrims visiting the birth place of the Buddha.

Mr Madhav Kumar, who is the Chairman of the ruling coalition in Nepal, discussed with Prime Minister Gunawardena about extending bilateral cooperation to new areas such as agriculture and sharing of each other’s expertise industries and hydroelectricity.

He is in Sri Lanka to attend the conference organized to mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Sri Lankan Communist Party.

MP Yadamini Gunawardena and Nepal Ambassador Bashu Dev Mishra also took part in the meeting.
