The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore commemorated Vesak 2025 with a Dhamma Sermon held at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple on 10 May 2025.

This year’s Vesak celebration was organized under the spiritual guidance of Ven K. Rathanananda Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, and the sermon was delivered by Ven Dr. K. Gunerathana Thero, Religious Advisor to the Mahakaruna Society and a resident monk at Lankaramaya Temple.

During the sermon, Ven. Thero emphasised on the universal values of Vesak and highlighted how Vesak provides a moment for inner reflection and a renewed commitment to the timeless teachings of the Buddha, especially at a time when global peace and harmony are increasingly challenged.

The occasion also paid tribute to the late Hon. Lakshman Kadirgamar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, who was instrumental in advocating for the recognition of Vesak as a day of international observance, at the United Nations (UN).

The event was attended by more than 100 members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, along with representatives from the Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association and devotees from various walks of life. Following the sermon, attendees were treated to light refreshments, fostering fellowship and community bonding.

To mark the Vesak week, the premises of the High Commission were adorned with colourful Buddhist flags, Vesak lanterns, and decorations, creating a vibrant Vesak ambiance.
